Adam Smylie, with his SERC Fire Engineering Apprentice of the Year award.

Award winning
Beacon Fire & Security apprentice Adam Smylie, finally got to pick up his award for winning South Eastern Regional College’s (SERC) Fire Engineering Apprentice of the Year 2020 after Covid-19 restrictions cancelled last year’s ceremony. He was presented with the trophy alongside this year’s winner, Megan Davidson.

Stuart Rankin, Deputy Head of School for Construction, Engineering Services and Skills for Work at SERC said, “Both of these students have represented the college and their employers at regional and national level. They are excellent apprentices within the college and a real asset to their employers.”

SERC, based in Northern Ireland, provides a wide range of courses, apprenticeships and professional development training. The college has close links with fire and security companies, which enables students and apprentices on relevant programmes to gain valuable knowledge and experience.

“We would encourage all budding engineers to contact SERC and the MET for further information about apprenticeships,” said Greg Smylie, Managing Director.
