Hilclare is the King of the Castle

A bespoke range of LED track spotlights were manufactured for the refurbishment of Enniskillen Castle, while the company also used its lighting design expertise at the Lakeland Forum in Enniskillen as part of an upgrade package.
The £3.5million refurbishment at Enniskillen Castle has created new galleries and exhibition spaces that tell the story of Fermanagh’s history and heritage, and this is where Hilclare’s expertise made a real difference.
The new artefacts on display include some of the earliest archaeological finds in Fermanagh as well as more recent discoveries during the excavation of the Drumclay Crannog, with some of the exhibits on display in public for the first time. With all this in mind, ensuring effective lighting was essential.
“We were appointed just three weeks before Enniskillen Castle was set to reopen, so time was really against us,” explained Steven McMurray, Hilclare Lighting’s Project Engineer for Northern Ireland. “Then we had the challenge of providing dimming control within the system that was already installed. To meet this requirement we custom built each fitting to incorporate a dimmer module, giving the client individual control over each light.
“Having that level of independent control was vital for the client, and it also gives them the flexibility to change the lighting layout in future.”
While not as challenging, Hilclare’s involvement at the Lakeland Forum also highlights how the company assesses each individual project.
“The client got in touch to source 200W LED high bays but I thought this was far exceeding their requirements,” Steven explained. “As we have carried out work for them before, they allowed me to provide them with a full lighting design and calculations, and that trust paid off.
“As we use the best Tridonic cobs we are able to offer far greater lumen per watt efficiencies, meaning they could opt for 150W high bays. However, the lighting now also complies with international sporting standards which is over and above their STUDYinitial requirements without the additional expense.”
Steven believes that the Hilclare approach ensures the company continues to be challenged by customers in both Northern Ireland and the Repulic of Ireland.
“As a manufacturer we are able to offer a lot more than a one-size-fits-all solution and we pride ourselves on providing bespoke solutions for every project,” he said. “That might be in the form of a bespoke product or a lighting design that takes all the client’s requirements into consideration.
“These two projects for Omagh and Fermanagh District Council are a continuation of a strong partnership we have built up over the years and we are again delighted to be able to repay their trust in us.”
