The Odyssey is available with integral antimicrobial protection, within the PVC-U material.

Why should you consider using antimicrobial trunking? Let’s start with minimising the number of Healthcare Associated Infections. HCAIs, infections occurring within a healthcare setting that were not present in a patient before entering, are known to thrive if microbial organisms are left unchecked. Where people are already vulnerable they pose an even greater risk of infection and further illness. Controlling harmful bacteria is key. Master that and you’re well on the way to winning the fight against infection.

Providing antimicrobial trunking solutions has been a central part of recent work by Core Distribution at hospitals and healthcare facilities in Northern Ireland and The Republic of Ireland. When asked to contribute to the Coronavirus frontline, Core had no hesitation in providing their innovative antimicrobial trunking products, manufactured by cable management specialists Marshall-Tufflex.

The Marshall-Tufflex Odyssey Bio and Sterling Curve Bio ranges passed their real world test with flying colours. During Covid-19 projects for the HSE and NHS they succeeded in setting the gold standard by using silver. To be more specific, a silver ion solution that ensures 99.9% of harmful bacteria will be zapped immediately on contact with the surface. With no loss of effectiveness throughout its lifespan, even when scraped or damaged, it was Core Distribution’s antimicrobial trunking of choice.

1200m of Odyssey antimicrobial trunking plus accessories were supplied to a new temporary testing centre in Antrim, a facility set up by Randox Laboratories in response to Covid-19. The project was made possible thanks to a rapid-fire collaboration between Core Dublin and Core Belfast, who quickly fulfilled the order.

Core RoI provided products to multiple healthcare projects, with essential HSE projects like Bray Primary Care Centre and Naas Primary Care Centre completed prior to lockdown. RoI Dublin also delivered vital work on two of the largest healthcare projects – the Citywest Hotel Conference Centre’s transformation into a 1100 bed Coronavirus Unit; and a 350 bed Covid-19 facility at the University of Limerick.

On each occasion that the Marshall-Tufflex Bio range was utilised it proved itself to be a durable, non-leaching treatment that really works. Compliant with European Biocidal Products Directive (BPD), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) registered, and Tested to ISO 22196:2011, its effectiveness further promoting the argument for prevention being a large part of any cure.

Nicholas Hayler, Technical Service & Standards Manager for Marshall-Tufflex, described microbial trunking as: “The most effective weapon in the battle against superbugs and cross- infection when used in conjunction with meticulous cleaning and personal hygiene routines.”

New build or restoration, you need the ‘right’ materials and products to successfully ‘guard’ against the microbial enemy. To combat infection in hospitals, nursing and care homes, surgeries, schools, sports and health centres, even food processing plants – top quality antimicrobial trunking has to be part of any thinking.
