Ansell solves floodlighting issues for the most challenging conditions

Aztec range from Ansell Lighting offers a variety of options to keep up with industry trends during its 30th year milestone…

This year marks Ansell Lightings 30th year in business and its new Coastal product as part of the Aztec floodlighting range is sure to cause a big surge to the market.

Marine and coastal areas present a huge number of challenges when it comes to lighting, and not every lighting solution can withstand the severe weather conditions and saltwater that these environments present. Water ingress arising from waves and storms and humidity can cause corrosion, rusting and premature failure. Which is why Ansell Lighting expanded its popular Aztec floodlighting range to include a marine-grade coastal product.

Aztec Coastal has been designed to ensure resistance from corrosion, rust and colour fade from salty air, water and harsh weather conditions and is recommended for applications situated on or within 50 miles of the coast. With saltwater causing metal corrosion to occur about five times faster than freshwater, and the humidity created by saltwater causing metals to rust up to ten times faster, Ansell need to put the product through its paces to ensure ultimate durability. So, the new luminaire was subjected to a concentrated 3,000-hour salt spray test, resulting in an IP66 rating that can withstand severe weather conditions and is protected against ingression and damage from sea salt.

Created in Ansell’s Warrington-based design and innovation centre, the Aztec LED floodlighting range offers a variety of options, sophisticated aesthetics, durability, high output performance and sustainability. The Aztec range – including the Coastal product – is available in Symmetric and Asymmetric distributions and in a wide range of wattages (50Watt, 100Watt, 150Watt, 200Watt and 300Watt). The grey powder-coasted die-cast aluminium housing provides the Aztec Coastal with a discreet understated aesthetic, and the high-performance, die-cast, marine grade aluminium and construction means it is suitable for swimming pool and chemical plant applications, as well coping with coastal and adverse weather conditions. It also features a pre-installed breathable gland to prevent internal moisture accumulation.

The Aztec Coastal Symmetric floodlight provides an evenly distributed beam distribution pattern, typically around 120° x 120°, making it ideal for shipping ports, outdoor storage and container facilities, while the Aztec Coastal Asymmetric floodlight has a beam distribution pattern of 120° x 60°, so is perfect for car ferry and passenger terminals, car parks, docks and harbours, promenades, piers, sports pitches and tennis courts.

With the current focus on rising-energy costs, the Aztec Coastal’s impressive 150 LPW efficacy ensures lower energy consumption with the same high levels of output. The 300W variation delivers 44,000 lumens and the LED lifespan of L80 B10 54,000 hours ensures minimal lumen depreciation over the lifetime of the luminaire. The product comes with 1.5m of pre-wired cable and a movable, angled bracket to make installation quick and simple, and also carries Ansell’s five-year guarantee.

Mark Abbott, Managing Director at Ansell Lighting said: “We know that finding the right luminaires challenging conditions is extremely important in order to avoid frequent maintenance or replacement costs. And it is equally important that the products maintain their good looks so as not to detract from the aesthetics of the application. Our Aztec floodlighting range was already very popular, and suited to a broad range of uses, so we feel this Coastal product really completes the offering, ensuring there is a product available for even the most extreme environments. The extensive testing it has undergone should reassure customers that they are buying a robust and reliable product for challenging applications.”
