50 years of excellence

For 50 years Braham Group has injected light and life into projects of all shapes, sectors, and sizes. The team boasts expert capabilities across all areas of electrical and mechanical contracting, offering a full, seamless service to all clients. The workload is extremely varied and the contracts range quite considerably in terms of size, but there is one particular trait familiar to all schemes – on-time completions with high standards of quality workmanship.

Commitment to quality

This commitment to excellence started in 1972, when Paul Braham and his wife Margaret founded a company in Hill Street, Newry (NI), that a few years later would become Paul Braham and Sons Ltd. Paul’s objective was to establish an electrical contracting and wholesale supply service “unrivalled in the Province”, with three separate divisions: contracting, electrical wholesale and electrical retailing. Paul Braham and Sons became a limited company in October 1977.

In 1985, the company moved to the premises in Warrenpoint, where a 4,500 sq ft retail showroom was opened four years later. As the business grew, more space was necessary for a larger store, roomier offices, and a larger yard, and in 1997 they moved to Milltown Industrial Estate, where Paul built offices and industrial units.

A new era

Milltown Industrial Estate remained Paul Braham and Sons Ltd.’s home until 2004 when the company was renamed Braham Electrical and finally moved to the current premises on Charlotte Street in Warrenpoint. The company was happy to be in the town centre and to move into freshly built bespoke offices. The new location also brought the electrical wholesalers closer to the foot traffic of the general public.

The move also marked the start of a new era, as the new senior management team took over and allowed Paul to retire. Managing Director Stephen McQuaid and Directors Thomas Braham, Jim Graham and Ian McEvoy held the reins until Stephen and Ian retired, and the current team stepped up. Today, the senior management team is formed by Managing Director Ciaran McQuaid and Directors Thomas Braham and Jason McQuaid.

The Group today

Braham Electrical continued to grow and has become a key player in the sector. In 2020, after Brexit, the company split the business into North and South, creating an Irish Company for the ROI market. The business is managed from the headquarters in Warrenpoint and now accounts for 60% of the company’s workload.

After 50 years in the business, the company was once again ready to embark on a new chapter as “Braham Group”. The new name reflects their expansion and ability to provide a complete installation package to clients, including Electrical Contracting, Mechanical Contracting, and the successful Street and Floodlighting division.

With approximately 40 full-time members of staff, as well as over 100 sub-contractors and self-employed engineers, and a fleet of 24 vehicles, their experienced and versatile team continues going from strength to strength, as Braham Group reaches new heights in this latest venture.
